Flood Recovery Program
Bendigo Community Health Services’ Flood Recovery Program has been assisting people to rebuild their lives since February 2023, following the October 2022 floods.
The program has assisted more than 140 residents in flood-affected areas around Bendigo, including those affected by the January 2024 floods and the February 2024 storms that occurred predominately within the Greater Bendigo region.
Within the flood recovery team, we have a multitude of resources and methods to help people who are on their recovery journey after floods and other major weather events. Some of the assistance we can provide includes:
- Application support for grants regarding any funding that clients may be eligible for after a weather event.
- General emotional and wellbeing support after major weather events.
- Providing referral pathways to counsellors/mental health clinicians, financial counsellors, housing providers, Department of Families Fairness and Housing and other partner agencies where appropriate.
- Providing essential items for recovery after a severe weather event.
- Providing outreach to clients’ properties, or at a convenient location if they are unable to travel, or for other circumstances.
- Providing information regarding important events relating to flood or disaster recovery.
- Helping prepare and submit personal experience statements to parliamentary inquiries regarding floods.
- Referrals to community legal services.
- Advocacy within the flood recovery space across a range of different services.
