Bendigo healthy eating guide to help workplaces choose the right options for catering

Does your workplace get outside catering for events, meetings or gatherings?
Sometimes it’s tough to decide on the most healthy food options so we’re teaming up with the City of Greater Bendigo to change that for you.
The new Greater Bendigo Healthy Catering Guide will help workplaces choose easy, healthy food options that follow the State Government’s Healthy Choices Guidelines.
We need cafes and caterers to support this idea so we can produce the best guide possible.
If you would like to get involved email foodsystems@bendigo.vic.gov.au by close of business on April 16.
Thank you!

Meet our BCHS Life Member: Dr Seshadrinathan Anant

Dr Anant joined the Bendigo and Long Gully Community Health Centre in 1975.
The health centre was operating out of a temporary structure in Bright Street, Eaglehawk.
“We were only four medical practitioners at this time along with Russ Hansen as manager and Sister Denise Main,” Dr Ananat remembers.
“We were like a large family – very close knit.
“We then moved to the present building the following year.”
Dr Anant has fond memories of helping the Eaglehawk and Long Gully communities from the medical practice, particularly the most vulnerable.
“We thought we can contribute to the medical welfare of the community and we very much enjoyed our work there,” Dr Anant said.
“Russ Hansen, David Kennedy and Sister Main need a special mention for their contribution.”
Dr Anant moved to India in 1980 and continued his career doing community and social work in medical practices.
“We are now living in a retirement community in Coimbatore in Southern India,” Dr Anant said.

Scan QR Code when you visit our sites for more than 15 minutes from March 29, 2021

Anyone attending our sites for more than 15 minutes from Monday, March 29, 2021, will need to scan a contact tracing QR Code at the door.
To make this process as easy as possible we have placed QR codes on the front door to our sites.
When you arrive please open the camera on your Smartphone and point at the QR code to bring up a link to a form for you to complete.
Enter your name and phone number into the form and then show our Client Services staff the green tick on your screen to prove you have submitted the information.
We ask for your patience and support as this is a State Government regulation to ensure contact tracing can be done quickly should a Coronavirus threat occur.
To find out how to download the State Government QR Code Service app to your Smartphone so you are ready on arrival at our sites click here.
This app will be used by businesses across the state including restaurants, cafes, businesses, sporting events, outdoor events and even the AFL footy before you enter so it’s a good idea to make sure you download from the Apple (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) stores ASAP.
If you don’t have a Smartphone please see Client Services staff on arrival.
Thank you. BCHS staff.
Bendigo drink spiking reports cause concern. Our staff provide some tips to keep you safe

There have been concerning reports of drink spiking in Bendigo.
Our Alcohol and Other Drugs team offers some advice to keep you and your friends safe while out and about.
What is drink spiking?
Drink spiking is adding a substance to another person’s drink without their knowledge or consent. It’s illegal and can cause harm. The main substances used are GHB, Ketamine and extra alcohol. All have a sedative affect which can cause unconsciousness.
Here are some tips to stay safe:
Be careful accepting drinks
If you are offered a drink by someone you don’t know or don’t know well walk to the bar with that person. Accept the drink from the bar staff only.

This Girl Can inspires women of all ages to get out and get active in Bendigo

See the latest Bendigo events at the bottom of this blog post!
It’s time to celebrate women of all ages and abilities being active in a way that suits them!
This Girl Can week runs from March 22 to March 28 to showcase how physical activity is important for our wellbeing.
It helps to prevent injury and long-term health conditions, can improve mental health and create opportunities for social interaction. The benefits are endless!
Around 50 per cent of Victorian women don’t get enough exercise each week, so let’s work together to ensure that we all can experience the benefits of being active.
Women have identified that a fear of being judged, not being fit enough, or worrying about what other people think are the main barriers that stop them from participating in sport or trying new activities. Let’s break down those barriers and create inclusive environments for women everywhere!
This Girl Can week is a dedicated time for local physical activity providers, clubs, gyms, facilities, and organisations to offer fun, beginner friendly classes and come-and-try events to empower and encourage local women to give physical activity a go or get back into it after some time off.
