Can you help us create an app to take consumer experience and community health awareness to a whole new level?

Bendigo Community Health Services is looking to create an amazing app to take our consumer experience and community health awareness efforts to a whole new level.

Now all we need is a savvy app developer to turn this idea into a reality.

We’re calling for Expressions of Interest from developers that can help us create a modern, easy to use and informative app that will talk to people with all levels of health literacy.

Sound like a good challenge for you? Great. We can’t wait to hear from you then!

Bendigo Christmas spirit flows through to those most in need this festive season

The festive spirit from community organisations and businesses across the City of Greater Bendigo has been amazing this year.

Coronavirus has made Christmas appeals difficult but we have still been overwhelmed with generosity from organisations keen to provide support so we can continue to help those in need through what can be a difficult time of year.

So, a huge thanks to the following organisations for their generosity and kindness which will make such a difference:

Bendigo GHB warning for festive season as use of the drug on the rise in the community

Bendigo Community Health Services is warning people to stay vigilant this festive season with a concerning rise in the use of the drug GHB.

BCHS Mobile Drug Safety Worker Paul Morgan said GHB was a drug the community must take seriously.

“A GHB overdose will mean hospital treatment and withdrawal from this drug can lead to seizures and even death,” Mr Morgan said.

“People must be aware it only takes two weeks of use for you to become dependent on this drug.

“The risk is even greater now with the festive season traditionally the busiest time for celebrations and increased partying.”

Mr Morgan said mixing GHB with alcohol was extremely dangerous.

“If you mix GHB with alcohol you are about 30 times more likely to need the help of emergency services” he said.

“You should never use this drug alone. If someone you’re with passes out from using GHB place them on their side and call 000 straight away.”

INFORMATION: Share this flyer from our AOD team on dangers of GHB and how to use safely if you won’t stop

Bendigo Family Day Care team earns State Government recognition for Achievement Program

Very proud of our dedicated Family Day Care team for earning State Government recognition by ticking off all six health priority areas in the Achievement Program.

The Family Day Care team first signed up for the Achievement Program in 2015 and have completed their final priority – mental health and wellbeing.

“It has been a bit of a journey for our staff, educators and families participating in the Achievement program, firstly working through the sun protection and Healthy Eating benchmarks.  As the years progressed and our workload permitted we continued working through the other benchmarks,” said FDC senior co-ordinator Denise Flanagan.

“The service provides care for 250 children in the homes of our many Educators located across the City of Greater Bendigo and parts of the shire of Loddon.  All educators continually practice SunSmart behaviours and many of our Educators have participated in the Mindfulness program over the years.  We have recently joined the Be You Mental Health initiative to give Educators, staff and families the opportunity to participate.”

Well done FDC team. That is a wonderful achievement.

If your early learning service, school, business or community organisation would like to take part in the FREE Achievement Program please call our co-ordinators Siobhan Sullivan or Natalia Smith on 5406 1200 to get you underway.

The Family Day Care team has opened bookings for 2021 so if you are seeking childcare here’s the details you’ll need: http://bit.ly/BCHSFamilyDayCare
