“Walking groups offer more than just physical benefits, they serve as a vital connection to social interaction and mental wellbeing,” Moni said.
“In a time where loneliness and isolation can greatly impact seniors’ health, the significance of walking groups cannot be emphasised enough.”
Moni said formal walking groups created a structured yet adaptable opportunity for people to interact with others, share stories, and encourage one another on the path to improved health.
“The combination of walking, a gentle form of exercise suitable for many, and the companionship within the group, forms a powerful antidote to the sedentary lifestyle often associated with aging,” she said.
“White Hills Wanderers meets at the entrance of Garden for the Future, Bosquet Street, and together we enjoy a social walk around the botanic gardens.
“Members are also welcome to bring their friends, family members or pets.”
Walkers will receive a free Bendigo Community Health Services drink bottle and pedometer when they join.
